Recent developments in cystic fibrosis (CF) treatment have required re-thinking nutrition care for individuals with CF. Improved treatment options have increased longevity for many patients, but how they may affect nutrition status is unclear, as is how nutrition status affects lung function and other outcomes. RDNs must adapt nutrition counseling to accommodate a population facing longer lives and higher risk of chronic diseases, but little evidence-based information is available to guide practitioners. Speakers will describe results from systematic reviews conducted by the Evidence Analysis Library examining appropriate nutrition assessment measures, the relationship between diet and nutrition-related outcomes, and the relationship between nutrition status and hard outcomes for patients with CF. Finally, speakers will describe case studies of different practice scenarios involving nutrition care for patients with CF and discuss evidence-based approaches to addressing individual needs.
