Why is prevention science important to RDNs, and how is it different from public health? This session will describe the field of prevention science and how RDNs can apply prevention frameworks to stimulate innovation in evidence-based nutrition practice while developing opportunities for RDNs as critical members of interdisciplinary teams. This session will include a discussion of current prevention science resources, their adaptation to the field of nutrition, and future applications of prevention science for RDNs across multiple disciplines. Current projects from two RDNs in prevention science doctoral programs will be discussed, including promoting healthy eating behaviors in the family as well as obesity prevention and the university food environment. Presenters will share their views on adapting practices for implementation in prevention-related work.
