The goal of Module 3 is to provide background information on the Career Laddering and Succession Planning process. Dietitians, in general, are great planners and very career-oriented. Due to the scientific rigors of our training however, we did not always have time to concentrate on the long-term planning of our careers. A business major knows that she has an ultimate goal of some advanced level of management, whether it is running her own company or becoming a corporate CEO. As dietitians, we often know what our first job will be, and we think about our advancement to the next level. But many of us are concentrating on keeping up with our science base and have not concentrated on that long-term goal. For some of us, our careers advance by chance, luck or surprise. While this is OK, and some element of that will always be there, we all need to improve at knowing where we want to be in the future.
