Many of us working with patients that have a chronic condition get very frustrated because we feel that the patients do not follow any of our recommendations and never change. In this module you will learn some different approaches and communication skills that will help you when working with your patients that have a chronic disease. Module 2 will start by comparing the traditional approach of taking care of a patient with the patient centered approach and help the listener understand the reason for one vs. the other. The rest of the module will further explore what the Empowerment approach is and learn about the five step model in assisting patients in making lifestyle changes. You will also have an opportunity to practice some communication skills that are important when working with patients. It will end by helping you understand the value of follow up with patients and setting up a long term working relationships.

The Certificate of Training program consists of four separate modules that build on each other. To receive the certificate associated with this training, all four modules and related tests must first be completed and a subsequent final post test exam in Module 4 must be passed with a minimum of an 80 percent in order to receive the Certificate of Training. The Certificate of Training can then be downloaded and printed from the site.
