Brought to you by the Center for Lifelong Learning with a special thank you to the content writers, Judith Beto, PhD, RDN, LD, FAND and Carol Bushey, PhD, MPH, RD. Planned with The Dietetics Practice Based Research Network Oversight Committee, now the Nutrition Research Network.
This module of the Certificate of Training in Research covers examples of strategies for analyzing data, choosing appropriate statistical tests, and working with a statistician. This module also covers approaches to dissemination of research results including presentation of work at conferences, manuscript development, and journal selection. The module will conclude with applications to policy or practice guidelines.
The field of nutrition and dietetics offers many opportunities for research. Observations made while carrying out the day-to-day duties of any dietetic position can, if approached systematically, transform into a research project. The rewards of undertaking research include gleaning from the data -collected either routinely or specifically - additional information that can inform practice. Working with data helps one gain understanding that can inform changes in practice guidelines that ultimately lead to enhanced health outcomes.
