A sustainable food system must be able to meet the needs of the present without compromising the future availability of resources. Sustainability requires an integrative systems perspective with regard to the local food production, the local ecosystem and the community. Knowledge of the fundamentals of sustainable agriculture systems from production, processing, distribution and consumption is essential to understanding the emerging trends and developing effective food system programs.

- Describe the cultural and historic factors that are contributing to the increased demand for products that are sustainable, local, organic and safe.

The Certificate of Training program consists of four separate modules that build on each other. To receive the certificate associated with this training, all four modules and related tests must first be completed and a subsequent final post test exam in Module 4 must be passed with a minimum of an 80% in order to receive the Certificate of Training. The Certificate of Training can then be downloaded and printed from the site.
