Details

The nutrition and dietetics profession aims to improve the nutritional status of humans, but we rarely think about the nutritional status of our food sources. What nutritional challenges are faced by crops, livestock, and marine plants and animals? How does this affect human nutrition, and what threats are posed by factors such as climate change?

In this innovative multidisciplinary panel, scientists specializing in crop nutrition, animal nutrition, and aquaculture will share foundational concepts from their systems and describe linkages to human nutrition. The food system is a common thread between these disciplines as nutrients flow through soil, water, plant, animal, waste, and human systems. This session aims to spark new ideas about comparative nutrition throughout the food system and provide a more robust understanding of grand challenges that require multidisciplinary collaboration.
