Much attention is focused on the gut and the microbiome and the role they may play related to chronic disease risk and promotion. Although evidence is emerging, there is still a wide knowledge deficit on the gut and chronic diseases. This session will provide an overview and differentiation of the microbiome and microbiota.
Speakers will focus on how cancer and other chronic diseases impact the gut microbiome. Additionally, the speakers will discuss a growing field of research that potentially provides novel insights into disease management through study of the interaction of diet and microbial metabolites in intestinal morphology.
Lastly, the presenters will delve in to how diet interacts with the microbiome and present promising nutritional interventions that can potentially be used to help restore gut homeostasis. The speakers we have planned for this session will inform on the subject of using nutrition to optimize health during cancer treatment.
