When one thinks of protein, what generally comes to mind is that it plays a role in the growth and repair of cells. Recent research suggests it does so much more including playing a significant role in other metabolic functions that impact overall health throughout the life cycle. Considerable data have emerged related to protein and age related muscle loss, protein synthesis and overall health. This presentation will provide the scientific evidence to support practitioners recommendations related to quality, quantity and timing of protein for the older adult.
