Chronic disease in the United States can be described as epidemic in scale. That situation drives the truth that the U.S. spends more on health care and produces less health than other industrialized nations. Clearly, food and nutrition choices underpin many of the biological paths to chronic disease.
The Canyon Ranch Institute Life Enhancement Program for adults and the newly developed Canyon Ranch Institute Life Enhancement Program for teens help people in low-income traditionally underserved communities learn how to improve their choices regarding food and nutrition. This includes, but is not limited to, cooking demonstrations and grocery store tours.
The program effectively put nutrition information and best practices into an integrative health context, allowing participants to understand the complex connections that underpin their health.
