This session will discuss key recommendations from the 2015 Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGAs) and their applications for feeding young children. An overview of current meal pattern requirements for Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) will also be addressed, as well as best practices for providing nutritious meals in child care settings. Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) can apply this information in their work with child care centers and day care home providers, program operators, and others to help them create and maintain a culture of wellness and meet CACFP requirements.

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) will showcase simple and easy-to-understand training and nutrition education resources developed specially for CACFP audiences. RDNs will learn how to use these materials to support best practices in meal service and nutrition education, as well as developmentally-appropriate physical activity, and appropriate electronic media use.
