Childhood obesity treatment services have a Grade B recommendation from the US Preventive Services Task Force, and should therefore be covered under the Affordable Care Act. However, there is limited patient access to such services.
The American Academy of Pediatrics, in collaboration with The Obesity Society, and funding from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, convened a multi-sector stakeholder conference in the summer of 2015. Through this conference, "Evidence-based childhood obesity treatment: Improving access and systems of care", the stakeholders assessed priorities in the field of childhood obesity treatment, formed a collaborative set of recommendations, and identified priorities to address with payers, including ACOs; this session will review those findings as well as future directions addressing the barriers and facilitators for implementing the recommendations from this conference.
