With over 48 million food insecure Americans, hunger is lurking everywhere. Dietitians, regardless of specialty, counsel clients struggling to feed themselves and their family. This interactive session will inspire participants to identify and transform counseling techniques for food insecure clients at risk for malnutrition. Attendees will leave with a better understanding surrounding the misconceptions of food insecurity and will be able to bridge the knowledge gap between the overall health of client and chronic hunger. The speakers will also demonstrate how effective community partnerships and the use of the new resource; Food Insecurity/Food Banking Supervised Practice Concentration can help integrate more dietetic interns into the world of food insecurity with any practice setting.
