Statistics show that almost half of residents in post-acute settings suffer from depression. Weight loss and malnutrition commonly seen in these residents often lead to poor health outcomes, increased medication use and repeat hospitalizations. Recent research will be presented and nutrition interventions reviewed regarding strategies to help manage and reduce depression for this at-risk population. The latest clinical nutrition and meal pattern strategies to help improve quality of care and enhance quality of life will be reviewed.
