Dr. Steven Bratman coined the word "Orthorexia" in the 1990s to describe "an unhealthy obsession with eating healthy food" that he observed among his patient population. Since that time, orthorexia - the word and the disorder - have gone from obscurity to ridicule to media darling. Although dietetics and other professionals use the term orthorexia, it is still an "unofficial" eating disorder without agreed upon criteria.

For the first time at FNCE, Dr. Bratman himself will describe how he conceived of orthorexia, and will present the newly published orthorexia criteria. Notable Eating Disorder Dietitian Jessica Setnick, MS, RD, CEDRD, will join Dr. Bratman to share what dietetics professionals need to know and do when encountering orthorexia in our patients.
