Updated evidence-based nutrition practice guidelines for Pediatric Weight Management will soon be available in the EAL. Recommendations developed within the framework of the Nutrition Care Process include a major emphasis on nutrition assessment and nutrition intervention. Through an innovative approach, analysis of the literature allows for application of research to real world complex situations.

Results provide evidence-based recommendations for effective care for pediatric overweight and obesity in a multicomponent, multidisciplinary context. Scientific evidence supports the importance of the registered dietitian nutritionist as a member of the interprofessional team caring for children with overweight or obesity.

By providing medical nutrition therapy as part of multicomponent pediatric weight management, the RDN can support interventions including nutrition, physical activity and behavioral counseling – all integral to the nutrition care process for these children and families.
