In recent years, the CDC has become concerned with the rising consumption of alcohol. Red wine has health benefits when consumed in moderate amounts, but alcohol also adds nutrient-poor calories, alters metabolic processes and physiological systems, and exacerbates underlying/pre-existing medical conditions.

This session will present the most recent epidemiology on alcohol consumption; our current understand of alcohol's metabolic and physiological effects; techniques healthcare professionals can use to evaluate alcohol intake; as well as strategies for helping alcohol-using clients achieve their health goals.
