The session is designed for students and members new to the public policy arena. Engaging in building relationships with elected officials can sometimes be difficult and uncomfortable. It forces key stakeholders to get close to politicians in ways that may feel "prickly" – like hugging a porcupine. Participants will be able to overcome discomfort while revealing the methods and benefits for building relationships with policy makers. Attendees will learn about the legislative process, the role of advocates, effective communications tactics for influencing policy, and how to conduct successful in-person meetings.
