With food and nutrition continuing to play a prominent role in today's media, it is vital that RDNs serve as the go-to source for expert information. This session will provide RDNs with the tools and tips they need to pitch and conduct media interviews in all forms of media. This will be a highly interactive workshop including:

Pitching the media. You will learn how to identify media outlets, brainstorm catchy story ideas, write pitches, and send and follow up on pitches to various media outlets.

The Interview. Once the interview is booked, the preparation begins. You will learn how to prepare for an interview with any kind of media whether in print, phone, radio, or television.

TV Basics. Whether you a natural on camera or terrified of the lens, you will be prepared with tips on clothing, hair, makeup, and props. You will also learn how to succinctly get your message across in quick sound bites and how to banter with a reporter on air.

Nailing the print/online interview. Most interviews with the media are via the phone or email answering questions as their expert. You'll learn how to prepare your answers in quotable sound bites to give that interviewer exactly the information they are looking for to complete their story.

New Media. Media has grown beyond TV, magazine, and print to blogs, social media, online videos, live streaming, and more. Learn core principles of professionally using new media and a 3-part checklist to help your content standout online.

Practicing mock interviews. You will be broken into small groups to practice being both the interviewer and the interviewee so you can practice your new interview techniques.
