Nutrition Focused Physical Exam (NFPE) is an important component of a thorough nutrition assessment. In addition to providing data to appropriately diagnosis malnutrition, NFPE can reveal changes in muscle mass and subcutaneous fat over time and reveal micronutrient deficiencies and toxicities. The purpose of this paper is to introduce the concepts and basic techniques involved in NFPE and to highlight components of NFPE which may be specific to adults with cystic fibrosis (CF).
