Kristie Leigh is a registered dietitian with close to 15 years of experience in the food & beverage and supplement industries. Since joining Danone North America in July 2015, Kristie has focused on exciting and evolving spaces including probiotics, microbiome and gut health. In her role, she supports leading probiotic brands including Activia and DanActive, plant-based brands including Silk, manages the Danone Institute North America and leads efforts to educate about healthy hydration for water brand Evian.

Kristie received her nutrition degree from Appalachian State University and completed her RD internship through University of North Carolina Greensboro. She is an avid crafter who spends her free time tackling at-home DIY projects and looking for new ways to create with her family. She lives in Sea Cliff, New York with her husband and two kids.

VP Health and Scientific Affairs at Danone North America

Miguel Freitas is the Vice President of Scientific Affairs for Danone North America, based in White Plains, NY. Dr. Freitas serves as a liaison between Danone and the scientific community. He is also responsible for ensuring the integrity of the Danone product portfolio with respect to health attributes and serves as the Nutrition and Scientific spokesperson for Public relations and convention purposes related to brands and category topics.

Dr. Freitas manages a network of Key Opinion Leaders and Health Care Professionals (HCPs) on nutrition and probiotics and implements Scientific Affairs programs targeting HCPs for several Danone brands. Dr. Freitas cooperatively works with Consumer marketing, Legal and Corporate Affairs departments in developing the Nutrition and Health components of messages, claims, communication tools and events aimed at HCPs and consumers.

Dr. Freitas also serves as a liaison between Danone North America and Danone Research in France, the international research center of the Danone Group, where previously he worked as a research project leader. In this capacity, he designed and managed research projects investigating human health and functional foods – in particular, probiotics – and communicated these findings to diverse audiences through business and marketing channels, presentations at scientific conferences, and the publication of studies in scientific journals.

Dr. Freitas earned his Ph.D. from the National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM, Paris, France).
