Participants will be introduced to the foundational concepts of fasting, including its various forms and the primary reasons women engage in these practices, ranging from health and wellness objectives to religious and cultural motivations. The session will advance to an analysis of the physiological impacts of fasting on women, considering the unique aspects of women's health across different life stages, including reproductive health and hormonal balance. This webinar aims to equip dietitians with the knowledge and tools necessary to provide culturally competent, evidence-based advice to women who fast, fostering a nuanced understanding of fasting's role in health promotion and disease prevention within this specific demographic.

Speaker

Fiona B. Lewis, DrPH, RDN, LDN

Dr. Fiona B. Lewis is an integrative nutrition and wellness expert, entrepreneur, professionally trained plant-based chef, and self-published author. She has served in a variety of settings including clinical and community nutrition, higher education leadership, food service contract management. Dr. Lewis is the CEO of Black & Peri LLC an organization focused on helping Black women flourish in health and thrive in wellness. She is also Associate Professor and Director of the Doctor of Public Health Program and concentration lead for the in Advanced Practice Leadership in Public Health Concentration at the University of South Florida.

Her work extends to addressing health disparities, leveraging FemTech to support women's health in midlife, and fostering organizational wellness to create cultures of well-being. She is also a passionate lover of the arts and a lifelong learner, qualities that enrich her holistic approach to wellness. She is committed to building resilient communities and organizations, promoting health equity and empowering future leaders in the field of nutrition and public health. Her service includes GAND IDEA Liaison, board member of RIBHO (Resources for Improving Birth and Health Outcomes), a Ugandan US-based nonprofit, and committee member of the Atlanta Black Chamber of Commerce’s Health and Wellness Committee. Dr. Lewis currently resides in Atlanta Georgia where she enjoys attending cultural and arts events, sewing, photography, and dancing.
