Skin health should be a top concern when assessing nutrition status, particularly for clients with wounds. With more than 8 million Medicare beneficiaries experiencing wounds with and without infections, and more than 20% of older adults in post-acute care facilities experiencing pressure injuries, wounds significantly impact health and quality of life for patients. Wounds can lead to loss of function and mobility, pain, depression, anxiety, prolonged hospital stays, chronic morbidity and even death. In fact, a 2018 study estimated a 22.5% increase in cost for patients with pressure injuries. Nutrition is a modifiable risk factor that plays a crucial role in the prevention and treatment of wounds, making it a critical consideration for healthcare professionals. Learn about evidence-based recommendations for the prevention and treatment of wounds, with a focus on the role of nutrition in supporting healing therapies. Don't miss this opportunity to improve your knowledge and skills in this critical area of patient care.
