The Academy launched its Incident Reporting Tool in 2020 to collect stories of success and harm related to the delivery of nutrition and dietetic services. Since its inception, the Tool has captured cases of misinformation and substandard nutrition care. A series of cases will be reviewed in this session with an analysis of the licensure law and potential violations. Firsthand, real-life examples will be shared by individuals impacted by harmful nutrition recommendations. Recognizing professional regulation serves to protect the public from the risk of harm. Attendees will learn how to identify what types of harm are relevant in legislative initiatives, utilize tools for effectively communicating stories when advocating for nutrition and dietetic licensure laws, and prepare for fierce conversations.
