Globally, maternal and child health is at the top of nearly every county's Sustainable Development Goal priorities. It is critical that each country reach and address the most vulnerable and marginalized mothers and children in order to reach set goals.
This panel session will discuss the challenges, barriers and opportunities to improve the health and nutrition status of women who are sex workers and their children. Research presented will describe findings from studies conducted in Africa, Asia and North America.
The panel discussion will focus on bringing this subject into our professional discourse to explore actionable solutions that will improve access to nutrition and health care, address the impact of developmental origins of disease in this population, identify the social determinants of health that impact the nutritional status of these women and children, and demonstrate how registered dietitian nutritionists can influence policy makers at the local and global levels to address this population.
