Assalamu alaikum (may peace be with you)! The MIDAN Ramadan Toolkit is your one-stop resource for providing culturally friendly food and nutrition services to Muslim individuals.

Originally created in 2009 for the purpose of Ramadan nutrition education in the Muslim community, the toolkit has since been vastly expanded with value-added complementary material to simultaneously serve the needs of the professional dietetics community. The toolkit now not only spans the nutritional implications of Ramadan fasting practices, but by popular demand, also provides glossaries of common ethnic foods and comprehensive information on halal dietary guidelines, including the surprising ease in which a facility can become "halal-friendly."

The MIDAN Ramadan Toolkit was created by Muslims in Dietetics and Nutrition as a joint effort between the member interest group's sponsors, community partners, and over a dozen member volunteers. This highly diverse team of collaborators represents a wide range of ethnic, religious, cultural, educational, and practice backgrounds, which has ensured a finished product that has proven to be of benefit to the widest possible community and professional audiences. From seasoned experts in Muslim culture to professionals who have never before met a Muslim, the MIDAN Ramadan Toolkit promises to have something for everyone.

Approved for 2.5 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) units, the MIDAN Ramadan Toolkit includes the following components:

  • "Healthy Eating During Ramadan" Practitioner Guide (includes background on Islam, Muslims, Ramadan, and fasting as well as nutritional, cultural, and other considerations)
  • "Healthy Eating During Ramadan" PowerPoint Presentation
