Federal regulations impact the work of registered dietitian nutritionists/RDNs in myriad ways – not only by setting ground rules for what is allowed (and not allowed) in programs where dietitians typically work (e.g., school meal programs, public health assistance programs, food companies whose products require labels), but also by affecting the public’s access to and perception of foods and diet. This article highlights opportunities for RDNs to influence and impact policy.
