This module is designed to provide an introduction to integrative and functional nutrition. In this module, we will examine the integrative healthcare landscape including the evolution of the current language and concepts used in this area; outline the guiding principles of both integrative and functional medicine; and provide a primer on how we apply the integrative and functional medicine constructs in practice. We will finish up by exploring some of the challenges and opportunities in this evolving area and outline some educational resources useful in practice.

Learning Objectives

1. Examine the complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) roots of integrative and functional medicine.
2. Describe the principles of integrative and functional medicine.
3. Explain the nutrition care process and its centrality within the integrative and functional medicine constructs.

The course includes pdf files of the speaker presentations and handouts as well as a downloadable CPE certificate.

The Certificate of Training program consists of five separate modules that build on each other. To receive the certificate associated with this training, all five modules and related tests must first be completed and a subsequent final post test exam in Module 5 must be passed with a minimum of an 80% in order to receive the Certificate of Training. The Certificate of Training can then be downloaded and printed from the site.
