Brought to you by the Center for Lifelong Learning with a special thank you to the content writers and presenters, Beth McDonald, MS, RDN, CSSD and Kelly Morrow, MS, RDN, CD. Planned with the Dietitians in Integrative and Functional Medicine DPG. Reviewed July 2022.

Module 4 covers the integrative and functional nutrition approaches to managing systemic inflammation. The goal of this module is to review the antecedents, triggers, and mediators of acute and chronic inflammation and to provide dietetic professionals with science-based integrative approaches and practice-based recommendations for managing inflammation in chronic diseases.

As you move through the module, you will see we have done our best to format the information as the Nutrition Care Process ADIME is formatted. That is we will begin by reviewing literature on Assessment, then considering the Diagnosis, Intervention, Monitoring, and Evaluation. In reviewing the literature, we will look for practical applications of anti-inflammatory integrative and functional nutrition recommendations in a variety of chronic diseases.
