The idea of "managing up" may evoke thoughts of navigating around or compensating for an ineffective or difficult supervisor. In reality, a true managing-up approach focuses on effectively communicating with a boss or leader in a way that benefits your work, which in turn benefits them and the organization. Managing up is a vital skill we all need, so it is important to manage up by listening, anticipating, collaborating, and persuading when necessary. This session will explore the dynamics of effective managing up, what it is (and is not), strategies to increase your ability to competently interact with a variety of bosses and leaders, and pitfalls to avoid. This session will answer the question, "What steps can I take to improve my working relationship with those above me, and be a more valuable and influential contributor?"
