Details

The audience will learn about how Artificial Intelligence (AI) has a role in optimizing systems when human cognition proves challenged. From searching for patterns across populations to making sense of data, this session will debate the psychology of AI and the story we create for AI-Smart nutrition practice.

The audience will be able to articulate how AI technologies can be used as a tool for nutrition and dietetic practice while recognizing the role of human brain in shaping the story of its use. They will also be able to identify opportunities to inspire action from AI-driven interventions to positively influence patient and population health and nutrition outcomes.

AI is dramatically shifting the nutrition and dietetic practice narrative. It can also be viewed as the new medium through which the evolved human brain and psyche processes are used to propagate ideas through the universal language of story. As such, the dangers of inculcating biases are directly related to our level of trust in AI since it sees through the filters of its creators. The story we create matters, especially as RDNs and DTRs are continuously challenged with making sense of data around them while learning about the medium itself.

The session will equip the audience with simple steps on navigating appropriate AI technologies in clinical, development, conflict and crisis settings from using AI apps to devising social bots for detecting risks, changing behaviors, and preventing and treating malnutrition. Nutrition and dietetic professionals who are committed to population health and nutrition can and should expand their focus to disrupt the cycle of practice by applying AI to data to answer questions, reveal inferences, prioritize challenges and innovate interventions to overcome barriers of the ever-evolving spectrum of the global healthcare system.
