This session explores the complex intersection of ADHD and eating disorders, equipping clinicians with the tools to distinguish symptomology and tailor interventions. Attendees will learn strategies to prevent and mitigate risks associated with diagnoses often overlooked in ADHD populations, such as atypical anorexia, binge eating disorder and avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID).
The presentation emphasizes all inclusive nutrition, the different eating difficulties that arise with ADHD and eating disorders and managing eating behaviors ranging from over-control to loss of control. Key principles of nutrition psychiatry will be applied to enhance overall mental health and support balanced eating. Topics will include all-inclusive nutrition, food flexibility, and strategies to address common ADHD eating patterns, such as binge eating, ARFID and chaotic eating.
By adopting a non-diet, judgment-free approach, clinicians will learn how to help clients neutralize food perceptions, foster balanced eating habits and implement harm-reduction practices tailored to individual needs. This session is designed to empower clients through compassionate, science-based care that integrates ADHD and eating disorder treatment.
