Despite 13.5% of Americans experiencing food insecurity, food is the single largest landfilled material. School share tables provide a unique opportunity to divert healthy food from landfills and use it to feed hungry people.
This session will help school nutrition programs and their community partners identify strategies to feasibly and safely implement school share tables. Attendees will learn the latest peer reviewed research on school share tables, the results of a USDA-funded study investigating safe and feasible share table operation, and one large, urban school district's lessons learned from their share table roll-out.
