Recommendation of intentional weight loss in advanced age (i.e. 65+ years) is controversial due to loss of muscle and bone and potential exacerbation of age-related disability and fracture risk. This session will provide an overview of: 1) age-associated changes in body weight and composition, 2) the impact of obesity and intentional weight loss on musculoskeletal outcomes in older adults; 3) countermeasure strategies to mitigate weight loss associated musculoskeletal tissue loss; 4) the long-term effects of intentional weight loss on musculoskeletal health outcomes; and 5) clinical recommendations to minimize muscle and bone loss with weight loss in older adults living with obesity.

The session will conclude with a moderator facilitated Q&A of common patient concerns in this area.
