Registered dietitian nutritionists and nutrition and dietetics technicians, registered are uniquely positioned to work together to expand access to high-quality nutrition care while strengthening the dietetics workforce. This webinar will explore the complementary roles of RDNs and NDTRs and highlight practical opportunities for integrating NDTRs into clinical, community, and foodservice practice settings.
Through real-world examples and panel discussion, participants will learn collaborative practice strategies that leverage the complementary strengths and distinct scopes of practice of both professionals to improve workflow and enhance nutrition service delivery. Attendees will also examine how intentional RDN-NDTR collaboration can improve operational efficiency, support workforce sustainability, and increase access to nutrition services across diverse practice environments.

Michelle Igleheart, PhD, RD, LD

Michelle Igleheart completed her bachelor's degree in dietetics at Ohio University and completed her master's and pre-professional practice at The Ohio State University. She earned her Ph.D. in Leadership Studies with a Health Sciences concentration at the University of the Cumberlands.
Throughout her career, Michelle has worked in the areas of public health, long-term and acute care, food management, community and employee wellness, as well as consulting. For the past 11 years, Michelle has been the Program Coordinator and Assistant Professor at Stark State College for the dietetic technician and dietary manager programs.
She has been nominated multiple times by students and peers for the Distinguished Teaching Award at Stark State College and was awarded the 2021 Distinguished Teaching Award. In 2019, Michelle was the recipient of the Outstanding Dietetic Educator award for dietetic technician programs in Ohio and the North Central NDEP practice group.
Michelle serves in the Stark County (Ohio) Dietetic Association as the newsletter editor and social media representative.
Michelle Palumbo, NDTR

Michelle is dedicated to the field of dietetics. Her national and state leadership roles highlight her commitment to advancing the nutrition and dietetics technician, registered (NDTR) profession. She was recognized as the Ohio Dietetic Technician of the Year in 2024. Early in her career, she assisted in the development of standards for the Portfolio Development Plan and continuing education hour tracking for dietetic technicians, registered.
Michelle serves on the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics NDTR 2027 Standards and Accreditation Committees. At the state level, she serves as the NDTR Representative for the Ohio Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and was recently elected Ohio Delegate to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She is also a past leader of the Greater Cleveland Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Michelle advocates for the continued development of advanced NDTR skills to support registered dietitian nutritionists. Her work developing a career ladder for NDTRs in both clinical and management practice earned her a poster presentation at FNCE® 2024. She also served as a panel presenter at FNCE® 2025.
Currently, she is leading efforts to expand the role of NDTRs in performing indirect calorimetry to support RDNs in the intensive care unit.
