Mobile Health Applications (Apps) have become powerful tools to support persons with diabetes (PWD) between visits where the majority of self-care occurs. Registered Dietitians and Diabetes Care and Education Specialists are uniquely positioned to recommend helpful apps to patients based on personal preferences and treatment goals. This session will cover how to individualize app selection, successfully onboard persons with diabetes, and support app use over time. Current research and challenges to app use including privacy, safety and security concerns will also be reviewed.

Speaker

Rachel Stahl, MS, RD, CDN, CDCES

Rachel Stahl is a registered dietitian & diabetes care and education specialist in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City where she provides diabetes self-management education and support and medical nutrition therapy for adults with prediabetes, gestational, type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Rachel is passionate about innovative patient-centered and data-driven diabetes management and advancing diabetes technology as a tool to assist people living with diabetes.

Rachel has served in several leadership positions in the nutrition and diabetes professional communities. She is currently the Technology Chair of the Diabetes Dietetic Practice Group and previously served as Public Relations Coordinator of the New York State Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and Past-President of the Greater New York Dietetic Association. Rachel is a proud recipient of the Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year through NYSAND.
