Learning Objectives

• The learner will be able to identify the impact of COVID-19 on metabolism and nutritional needs in critically ill patients and state the importance of appropriate nutritional support, particularly protein intake, for improved clinical outcomes.
• The learner will be able to recognize the psychosocial factors associated with home parenteral nutrition and offer appropriate recommendations for patients receiving home parenteral nutrition.
• The learner will understand the clinical guidelines regarding gastric residual volume measurement in critically ill patients and how these guidelines are or are not being applied in intensive care units by reviewing several gastric residual volume surveys in the current literature.
