On the horizon are new regulations that will improve the safety of the U.S. food supply. The Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Final Rule for Food Traceability will go into effect on January 20, 2025. The Food Traceability Rule requires people who manufacture, process, pack, or hold foods on the Food Traceability List (FTL) to maintain and provide to their supply chain partners specific information or key data elements (KDE) for certain critical tracking events in the food's supply chain. This framework will form the foundation for effective and efficient tracing and clearly communicated information that FDA needs to perform such tracing. At the center of the final ruling is the assignment, recording, and sharing of traceability lot codes for FTL foods, as well as linking these lot codes to other information identifying the foods as they move through the supply chain.

MFNS is hosting Food Traceability and Your Supply Chain – What You Need to Know on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 from 2-3 pm EST/1-2pm CT. Our industry is already preparing for the rules which will go into effect in early January 2025. Please plan to join us on 12/18 to learn more about the new rule and how dietetic professionals can use this information to serve our customers.
