Online Abstract: As sports nutrition evolves, we aim to explore cutting-edge strategies that fuel performance, health, and recovery across the lifespan and across various disciplines, from youth athletes to masters and from recreational to elite levels.
Session 1: Mindful Nutrition: Nine Strategies for Peak Cognitive Performance: This presentation dives into the critical connection between nutrition and brain health, offering valuable insights for performance dietitians. By focusing on the cognitive aspects of nutrition, the presentation expands participants’ expertise beyond physical performance into the realm of mental sharpness, decision-making, and cognitive endurance, key factors for success in both athletic and tactical environments.
Session 2: Protein for Performance: From Barbells to Ballet and Growth Spurts to Gold Medals: Protein plays a critical role in performance at every stage of life. Requirements depends on need and definition. Further, needs, utilization, and practical recommendations evolve from youth through master-level athletes. We will explore protein requirements across the lifespan, highlight how physiological changes, training demands, and energy availability influence protein and amino acid needs.
Drawing on current evidence, the session will address protein intake considerations across a range of performance contexts, including strength and power sports, endurance, and energy restriction. Topics include protein quality and timing, amino acid utilization, upper intake limits, requirements and how these factors interact with training adaptations, recovery, and body composition goals.
Designed with dietitians in mind, this session will translate research into practical, real-world strategies, equipping practitioners with actionable knowledge to individualize protein recommendations and support performance, health, and longevity across diverse athlete populations.
Session 3: RDNs Breaking the Ice: Practical Strategies for Implementing Nutrition Education in Youth Athlete Settings: Translating sports nutrition research into meaningful action for youth athletes requires creativity, clarity, and collaboration. This session features a sports dietitian in NY and soon to be RD in FL sharing how they apply evidence-based nutrition principles with their youth ice hockey teams. Through real-world examples, presenters will address the nutritional needs of growing youth ice hockey players, explore challenges and opportunities in team-based education, and highlight strategies for engaging athletes, parents, coaches, and athletic staff. Participants will gain practical, evidence-informed tips to improve nutrition education, consistency of messaging, and performance support in this very “cool” youth sport environment!

Session 5: Fueling Self-Supported Female Athletes from Preteen to Postmenopausal: This session will cover an overview of self-supported events and their unique nutrition & hydration challenges. We will discuss the nutrition & hydration needs of female athletes across the life span from preteens, adolescence, adult, perimenopausal, menopausal and postmenopausal. These recommendations will be applied to event specific nutrition plans for for female athletes across the life span to see how these recommendations impact their nutrition & hydration for the event.
Session 6: Post Natal Sports Nutrition and Optimization with Healthy Expectations: This session will highlight the critical role of eating enough, being gentle with the body during recovery, and engaging partners and support people as part of the training and healing process. Through an integrative lens—combining nutrition, mental health, and physical training—attendees will gain practical tools to better support postnatal athletes in sustainable recovery and performance.
